TIDE — Operational Ocean and Weather Intelligence

Overview

TIDE user interface

TIDE is a browser-based client and caching layer over operational forecast and observational products - ECMWF IFS, Copernicus Marine Service, DWD ICON, and regional high-resolution models - combined with scientific tools: analytical uncertainty propagation on HF radar, Lagrangian drifter ingest with IOC quality-control flags, and native support for unstructured coastal meshes.

Browser-based, no installation. Deployed either as a managed service we operate for you, or self-hosted on your infrastructure with support for your sysadmin team. DSGVO-compliant architecture; no third-country data transfer.

Designed for

Research and operational oceanographydetails

For scientists and operational forecasters at hydrographic institutes, research centres, and university coastal-modelling groups. Analytical HF-radar covariance uncertainty, SCHISM / FVCOM / FESOM unstructured meshes, meteogram intercomparison across multiple models, explicit conventions, honest limitation reporting.

Search & rescue - training and planning, advisory use only → details

Leeway drift simulation (Allen 2005, 85 object types) for SAR training exercises, scenario planning, and NGO-volunteer sea-rescue preparedness. Advisory use only; operational SAR authority remains with the national rescue coordination centre.

Data Sources

Forecast and observational products integrated as of 2026-04:

Layer Product Resolution / cadence Operator Licence
Wind ECMWF IFS HRES, Open Data 0.1°, hourly, 4×/day ECMWF Open Data
Wind (regional) DWD ICON-EU, ICON-D2 0.0625° / 0.02°, hourly DWD CC-BY 4.0 (OpenData)
Currents CMEMS Global Analysis-Forecast PHY 1/12°, hourly surface Copernicus Marine CMEMS licence
Waves CMEMS Global Wave Analysis-Forecast WAV 1/12°, 3-hourly Copernicus Marine CMEMS licence
HF Radar WERA-class installations 1–2 km nowcast, hourly per operator per operator
Coastal unstructured SCHISM / FVCOM / FESOM regional down to 10 m coastal per operator per operator

TIDE is a client and integrator. Operational responsibility for the underlying forecasts and observations remains with the data providers. Additional datasets

  • regional NWP, proprietary model chains, your own NetCDF / GRIB - can be

integrated into a deployment on request.

Deployment and Data Protection

Deployment Managed service (we operate) or self-hosted on your infrastructure (we support your sysadmin team).
Configuration Data sources, feature scope, and interface branding configured per deployment.
Access control Session cookies (HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Strict), 24 h rotation. No third-party analytics.
Data protection DSGVO-compliant architecture. User identifiers hashed (HMAC-SHA256, ≥ 32-char salt); retention policies enforced server-side.
AIS relay HMAC-SHA512/256 authenticated UDP channel for NAT'd receiver sites.
Offline mode Progressive Web App; core workflows available without connectivity.
Frontend Browser-based, WebGL 2.0. Runs on Android devices down to 2 GB RAM.
Backend Go binaries, SQLite, minimal dependencies. No Kubernetes, no third-country data transfer.

Pricing

Deployment-specific; quoted per customer. Scope depends on data sources, user count, feature set, branding, and hosting model. Academic, non-profit, and research-group arrangements handled case by case.

Terms of use and Auftragsverarbeitungsvertrag (DPA) available on request.
